Operation Watch Dog
RESIDENTIAL CAMERA REGISTRATION PROGRAM
Do you currently utilize a private video surveillance system at your home or business? If so, the Brielle Police Department would like to discuss a new program with you.
Video surveillance is one of the best methods for apprehending and convicting suspects caught on camera in the act of committing a crime. Installing video surveillance is a great example of community-police partnerships. We highly value these systems as a police agency serving our community.
Many business owners and residents currently operate surveillance systems at their businesses and/or homes. As crimes occur nearby, they are not always aware that their systems may have captured information that could help solve the crime.
The Police Department is asking residents and businesses throughout the Borough to register their privately owned surveillance camera systems including the Ring security system. As we respond to criminal incidents, we may be able to use the information or footage gathered from the security cameras to assist in the apprehension and prosecution of the criminals involved.
By registering your camera/security system with us, the Police Department can quickly identify the location of nearby cameras that may have captured an incident. Registration of your camera system will ONLY notify the Police Department that such a system exists. Officers will then be able to contact the owner of the system and request to view footage for a specific date and time.
If you would like to inform the Brielle Police Department that you have a video surveillance system and allow officers to contact you should a crime occur in or near where your system is installed, we ask they you let us know by completing the below form. Thank you for your consideration of this matter and for helping us keep our community safe.
Please note that this program does not give police the ability to tap into any home or business surveillance feeds.
